Scope of work

What our mechanics work on.

Heavy-duty diesel is the day job — semis, box trucks, dump trucks, buses. Medium-duty in the mix too.

  • Cummins ISX and X15 — derate codes, injectors, turbo actuators, coolant loss.
  • Detroit DD13 and DD15 — one-box aftertreatment, EGR, sensor faults.
  • PACCAR MX-13 — fuel system, wiring harness issues, forced regens.
  • Volvo D13 — I-Shift concerns, def dosing, ECM diagnostics.
  • Isuzu and Hino medium-duty — starters, alternators, brake work.
  • Air brakes — chambers, S-cams, slack adjusters, gladhands, air leaks.
  • Electrical and ECM diagnostics — Cummins Insite, DDDL, PACCAR Davie, JPRO.
  • Aftertreatment — DPF cleaning, DEF dosing, forced regens on the shoulder.
  • Suspension and driveline — U-joints, hangers, air bags, ride-height sensors.

Deep engine work goes through diesel engine repair. Anything box, gladhand or reefer-side goes through our trailer work.

Mobile or shop

Which do you need?

Mobile at the truck

Anywhere inside I-465, out along the I-70 and I-65 corridors, into the warehouse yards in Plainfield and Mount Comfort, and to the truck stops drivers actually stop at — TA Post Road on the east side, Pilot Whitestown up the I-65 line. Service truck shows up with parts for the likely fix. See mobile truck repair.

Shop at 5301 Mass Ave

Full bays at 5301 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46218 — in-frame work, transmission jobs, and anything that can't happen on a shoulder. Just inside the I-465 east loop off Massachusetts Ave, easy in and out for a tractor-trailer.

The difference

Why drivers ask for a mechanic, not a repair service.

Most "truck repair near me" numbers reach a call center. That call center sells your breakdown to whoever's available in the area and adds their cut on top of what the mechanic charges. You wait, you pay more, and the person quoting the job has never turned a wrench.

At Road X the person who answers is the person who wrenches. You get a straight answer on whether it's worth fixing roadside, what it'll likely cost, and how long it'll take. If the truck needs a tow instead of a mechanic, we tell you that too.

Our mechanics

Who's actually turning the wrench.

Every Road X mechanic runs OEM diagnostic software — Cummins Insite for the ISX and X15, Detroit DDDL for the DD13 and DD15 platforms, PACCAR Davie for the MX-13, and Noregon JPRO across the fleet. That's the software the dealer uses. That's what it takes to force a regen, clear an aftertreatment code, or program an injector correctly.

We put mechanics in a truck only after documented heavy-duty diesel experience — no ride-alongs handling your breakdown alone. If you want to know who's coming before we roll, ask on the phone and we'll tell you what they're rated on.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Call-out is $150 to $250 depending on time of day and how far out you are, quoted before the truck rolls. Labor runs $145 to $175 an hour after arrival, parts quoted on-site. Most roadside jobs — an airline, a sensor, a jump, a tire — land between $300 and $700 all-in. You get the number on the phone, not on the invoice.

Yes — that's who answers. Call (317) 551-5253 and the person on the other end is a working mechanic, not a dispatcher reading from a script. Describe what the truck's doing and you'll get a straight answer on whether it's a shoulder fix, a tow, or something you can limp to the shop.

Our core work is medium- and heavy-duty — class 5 through class 8. We take pickup diesels (6.7 Cummins, 6.7 Powerstroke, Duramax) case-by-case, usually only when the fleet already runs heavy trucks with us. Call and ask — if it's not something we should touch, we'll tell you and point you somewhere that will.

Inside the I-465 loop we're usually on-site in 30 to 60 minutes. The I-70 and I-65 corridors out toward Plainfield, Whitestown or Mount Comfort typically run 60 to 90 minutes. If the truck's in a dangerous spot, we say so and get the closest unit rolling first — nights and weekends included.

Yes — Isuzu NPR, Hino, Freightliner M2, International MV, all the common medium-duty platforms. Fleet delivery trucks, rental returns, reefer straight trucks. Same mechanics who handle the tractors handle the box trucks — no separate department, no separate rate sheet.

Yes — every Road X mechanic runs OEM diagnostic software (Cummins Insite, Detroit DDDL, PACCAR Davie, Noregon JPRO) and has documented heavy-duty diesel experience before we put them on a truck. If you want to see specific credentials before we roll, ask on the phone and we'll tell you who's coming and what they're rated on.
